Facility Overview
We are located at 2025 Courtneypark Drive East, Mississauga.
When you arrive at the address, proceed up the driveway and find a spot in the parking lot. Upon entering the building, feel free to have a seat in the cafeteria and we will meet there. Bathroom facilities are located near the elevator.
Course Overview
This course shall cover the requirements for the Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations levels.
Students will gain knowledge in the areas of personal protective equipment, surveying an incident, characteristics of hazardous materials, development of an incident, decontamination, incident command and product control. Students will also learn about the legislation dealing with dangerous goods, markings and placards for shipments, hazardous materials containers and terrorism activities.
This course meets the requirements of NFPA 1072, Standard on Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents, Awareness and Operations Level, 2017 edition.
Course Details
Course Hours:
Monday - Thursday - 8:00am-4:00pm
Friday - 8:00am - 3:00pm (OFM Evaluation Day)
This course will include a mix of theoretical and practical lessons on the first four days of the program; upon successful completion of the FESTI program, on Friday you will have the opportunity to challenge the OFM exam for an IFSAC seal.
We will generally have 45 minutes for lunch break, and we have refrigerators and microwaves available. There is also a wide variety of restaurants available near FESTI.
During the lectures, you may indulge in water, coffee and snacks within the class. We have a water fountain and encourage you to bring a water bottle. Coffee is not provided during this course. Changerooms and shower facilities are available.
Required Gear
For the theoretical portion, please bring personal stationary items to make notes and study aids.
All manuals required for the program are supplied and must be returned upon completion of the program. They are available for purchase if desired.
For the practical portion, please dress according to the weather as we will be outside.
You must wear CSA approved work boots. Bunker Gear will be provided. You may supply your own if you have it.
